Full transparency: I haven’t tried out the new model, nor have I done much research. All of impressions and views are based off tweets and opinions of certain other “credible” people and benchmarks.

The model is probably the best, at least for a few weeks until the next model is released by Google, Grok, Anthropic, Alibaba, and god knows what other AI company.

Our future as a civilization has never been this uncertain. Which is crazy, exciting, and terrifying.

Obviously, I don’t know what the future holds for us like everyone else. Perhaps we’ll have great healthcare, education, UBI and lots of other important stuff for our development for free. Or Perhaps we’ll have egregious capitalism that priorities the needs of the few over the many where the needs of everyone can be prioritised.

What I do know is that the future is in our hand. For far too long I believed that some secret group of elites control our world. I still believe that too some extent due to our behavioural (or biological?) need of control/dominance over others. But, no single group of elites can fully control the whole world. It just doesn’t seem possible to me. I mean, I feel free to do whatever I want (not inclusive of subtle societal/cultural constraints).

The important part is that we as a civilization don’t seem unified to confront AI as a technology which perhaps is the single biggest risk to our existence, should it not be regulated with care.

I mean, think about it: We all know nuclear weapons are bad which is perceived (at least by me) as the biggest threat to humanities existence because America dropped one and it was the source of a great deal of suffering. Obviously this is also amplified by lots of propaganda as well.

However, in the case of AI, most people are only hearing/utilising it’s tremendous benefits (me included). The risks, the edge cases, the scary scenarios are only read by the select few and reported by very few outlets because it’s eclipsed by the benefits of it’s utilisation by the 2 competing super powers. America and China.

I can sympathise to some extent with the nation heads of both countries since one of them alone cannot put a break over the progress in an effort to ensure AI safety since the other might covertly continue the efforts. Classic problem of trust.

It’s sad really, we’ve been so divided historically due to geographical limitations and lack of international communication. But now, we’re divided due the prevalence of various ideologies, beliefs and thoughts. I truly believe that we will overcome this division in the near future as all countries are becoming more “diverse” due to increased migration which has boosted economic growth. But, the real reason we’ll overcome that division has to do with younger millennials and future generations growing up with people of different backgrounds, races, skin colours and faiths.

When people grow up around each other, they don’t have implanted stereotypes because they’re interacting with the party being stereotyped and can identify the stereotypes as false. While racism does still exist, especially nowadays where it’s more amplified due to Twitter being bought by Elon Musk and the algorithm seemingly boosting “extremist” views of nationalism and cultural damage by immigration.

Now, just to be clear. I am not denying that immigration both legal and illegal can be bad in certain cases, especially unchecked (illegal) immigration where anyone can enter. However, the idea propogated by most far right people reduces the “illegal” immigrant to as an alien when in reality we’re all natives to this planet. I believe that for now, we need to have a filter that ensured people that are being allowed in the country have good values such as for equality, equity, compassion and progress.

I won’t talk more about immigration in this piece as there is a lot more complexity surrounding the topic which can not be explained accurately in a short amount of time. My views are heavily inspired by Star Trek but they have an understanding that the world we live in and the world in star trek are very different, hence not all things in star trek can apply.

Now getting back to the point, I think we’re on a negative trajectory in terms of AI safety and regulation merely due to the fact we’re not unified as a civilization and are engaged in international competition with a technology that can have a serious impact on humanity. I do think that eventually after certain events that are painful we’ll be back on a track which is more positive for all of us.

My estimated timeframe for this is around 5-20 years.

Finishing off: I don’t think the future in store is negative. I personally think the future Is going to be incredible for everyone on this planet as we are a good species, for the most part. Sure we sometimes get greedy, jealous, and a lot of other bad things but time and time again weve realised what we do wrong and we correct it. If not for ourselves then for our future descendants.

The future of our civilization is incredible, attainable and unified.
